Ride Log page

I’ve set up this page for comparisons between various machines I own and have owned. The ride is around a 21km test route. I start the timer about 1km into the route (as you can see from the different star and end points) so I have a chance to warm up.

The wind and conditions are variable, but I try to keep notes of these things. This is meant to give some idea how much difference the bike makes.

The rules for the bikes that can take the test are:

  • Must have carrying capacity for a day trip (or I have to carry a bag)
  • Must have mudguards, or capability to fit mudguards
  • Preferably must have tyres 28mm or greater (the V3 din’t, but there’s not many options for TT wheels)

The stats:

Machine Image Weight Start Avg speed Best Avg Speed Notes
Raptobike Lowracer  Raptobike ? 18.5 18.5 http://connect.garmin.com/activity/345533197

Rear light fell off at fastest point!

Sirrus v3   11.7kg N/A 18.3 (long loop) http://connect.garmin.com/activity/223529805
Sirrus   12.5kg  17.7 mph 19.1 mph http://connect.garmin.com/activity/202413930
Cruz  15.5 mph 15.5 mph Chain fell off at the top of the big hill. old GPS in bag
Windcheetah with faring 18kg  15.7 mph 15.7 mph http://connect.garmin.com/activity/187258447, faring loose twice
RANS V3 13kg  ? 18.4 mph Old GPS

Note, that the “old” GPS was a Garmin GPS 60 which dropped out spectacularly under trees. Given my fast descent is under trees, I could have gotten lucky or unlucky on previous rides depending when the signal failed.
